Occupational therapy

My occupational therapy.

Thinking about my title took me back in time. I studied occupational therapy, I completed my bachelor but then I changed paths. On the other hand, I think that everything we do is never lost. I never thought I had lost those years of my life because today I work in the field of management, with a lot of occupational therapy in mind. You'd be surprised how much better a manager that makes me, I think.

Occupational therapy is the science of occupation. We want to help people get back to their jobs, but it's also through activities that we work to get there. Art is also often used in occupational therapy, particularly with mental health clients.

The feeling of accomplishment felt when we complete our work, whatever it is, is highly satisfying. In addition, while we apply ourselves to it, it is difficult to think of anything else. It's kind of meditative in a way.

In short, great introduction to bring the fact that in order to keep me busy and to clear my mind, I undertook with my lover to renovate furniture. I needed a project to break the boredom and feel useful for something. In the evening, while I watch TV with my boyfriend, I can't stop telling myself that I would much rather not have all this free time to myself and be able to take care of my baby. My whole being was prepared to take care of a child from morning to night (night included!) and since then, I feel completely useless.

I had never done this, nor had any experience in the field. Maybe that made it all the more exciting. In addition, in the age of social networks, information and inspiration can be found everywhere. So I started looking at some pictures and videos for a few days and off we went!

Each new activity that we want to do, starting is always the most difficult (hello blog!). But you have to start, there is no other way. If you think about it too long, you’ll probably end up finding all the reasons in the world to find the project too complicated and abandon the idea. The first step is scary but highly rewarding. In the end I liked it so much! It was more difficult and complex than I expected and the project was slightly changed along the way but we got there!

The time spent concentrated on not exceeding, on applying the paint well, it really makes you in a meditative state. I love crafts for that. And the feeling of pride once completed, wow!

I can't believe in such a short time to have managed to accomplish this superb transformation, which was initially with the idea of selling it but which will finally have its place at home because we love it too much!

Dare to do this project that attracts you but intimidates you at the same time! And above all, you don't need to know everything to start, you learn on the way. Wanting to know everything perfectly before you start will block you and prevent you from accomplishing what really excites you.

Write me your ideas if you feel like it, sometimes you need a little external motivation to start (thanks to my love!). Or if you want to share a great achievement and are looking for a little motivation to continue. I told you earlier that I try to feel useful… it will be my pleasure to support you if you need to!

Now I'm going for furniture number 2!
